The costs for energy consumption (electricity and gas and / or heating) can best be assessed over the course of 12 months. This has to do with the fact that most of the yearly energy consumption (say about 75%) is used during the colder months. If you would pay what is used on a monthly basis – the monthly amount would differ a lot which is not preferable. For this reason, an energy company (or your landlord) works with a monthly advance payment.
